Smashbash 2026
This year I made something horrible. Smashbash has always been a grimdark and gruesome competition and the last few years my submissions have been tame. The first year was a monster pirate ship, last year was a multiple limbed many eyed titan. This year the theme was teeth.
Recently I had some dental issues. One of my molars sustained some damage, resulting in a crown. While I was at my awesome dentist I ended up mentioning the teeth theme to this year's build and they kindly lent me some dental samples so I could take some molds off of them. Once they finished installing the new crown, they also did some filling work on two other teeth. Growing up my old dentist did not believe in Novocain and I ate way too much candy, resulting in many fillings and bad memories.
My press molds worked great, I used the aluminite two-part silicone putty and started mass producing teeth. I used multiple packs of glow in the dark sculpey as well as some green, rust, and white sculpey.
For the body is used an armature I started months ago, building a sculpey form over a foil base. The armature wire was slotted into a wood block so I could work on it and bake it while it was stable.
I used one of my press molded faces that I handed out at conventions for the head and mounted so many teeth around it with hot glue. The base body ended up getting a base coat in a wet brick colored texture paint to hide finger prints and nail marks. I wanted the paint around the teeth to remain transparent so I thinned them to a wash with gloss mediums, speed, and contrast paints.
I then used a few Games Workshop washes to tarnish up the teeth as well, leaving the entire monster slightly triggering with my own teeth traumas. I made a simple base from sculpey and was able to mount the miniature right on with some super glue.
I learned a few new techniques in this build and I am excited to finish up a long-standing painting project before I can put things to use.
