In high school I was introduced to pottery clay. While my classmates were making pots, cups, and cylinders I started making monsters. It made finding my work in the class kilns easier and I still have a few of my original monsters kicking around the collection and in school I was obnoxiously prolific. I went to a fancy ceramic college and was able to use kilns that were large enough to fire a small sized car and learned bits of glaze chemistry as well as designing clays for pottery and hand building. After school I worked out of a local studio for a few years, ran a gallery for a spell, and now make it about once a year to a raku firing. The pottery side of my life has slowed down quite a bit but I still use the skills I learned to make smaller sculptures and other chaos.
