The players got to see something outside their perspective, a vision of what was transpiring back on Argenthome post Telgeddis explosion and the horror left behind.
“Booted feet stopped at the edge of a chasm breaking through multiple levels of the substructure, almost dividing the entire space station in half. The cause of which was felt by everyone on board. It is not every day your boss gets exploded by a flying magic cat thing. The knight threw a light enchanted rock down into the dark expanse, testing the depth. He waited with bated breath, quieting his arriving companions with a hand gesture. After moments of silence a squelching thud and the light disappeared into… something.
Other knights made ready with spells and ropes to descend, the headmaster would appreciate their report as quickly as possible, haste was necessary. Casting a quick incantation and eating a small feather the knight jumped into the darkness, magic guiding him along a safe path. His eyes adjusted to the dimming light the deeper he descended. Crimson and silver scales came into view before his feet settled upon the broken mess of ancient dragon. The silver dragon body still held within the unmoving chest of the red.
The knight made his way around the pair, his boots slipping on meat, and found the neck ended suddenly, the head gone, rent asunder by the blast. Stirring sounds in the darkness. Slumping and dragging. The knight ground a dried bit of fire beetle across phosphorous in his palm and magically summoned the light of day in the chamber to reveal large chunks of meat and bone being pulled back towards the dragon pair by sinew. The body of the red dragon convulsed as black shadowy tendrils reached out of the neck, pulling the bits of flesh and bone back. The knight attempted to run, the terrifying squelching bits growing faster. The sinew was quick, it grabbed the knight, pulled him to the dragon, and replaced what was lost. Tendrils broke the surface of the chasm, many knights were lost, but the beast remains.”
After that the group realized they had been out for a while. While drifting the ship attempted to feed them nutrient pellets to sustain them until regaining consciousness. They took stock of who was with them, Junipers team, a group of clones, and three of the four giants they were hoping for, somehow Gatlineer was left behind.
The giants immediately started looking for and dismantling any trackable items on themselves as well as in Juniper’s crew. The ship understood what they are doing and a strange rectangular pillar rose near the giants. The pillar has an opening, a chute with immense heat coming from it. Items placed within are destroyed, added to whatever fuels this beast.
The ship responds to things the party needs. If they need somewhere to lay down, the ship will make beds with dividers. Brux wanted some sort of entertainment and a strange chess board like table came out of the floor with moveable pieces. If they need tables to sit around, tables and benches will rise from the floor, all made of the strange white blubber like material the ship is made from. The party now has a Bastion, but modified for the needs of this adventure.
Brux also decided he wanted to set up both a smithy and a library on the Spelljammer and became obsessed with finding a librarian and blacksmith. Din wanted to sed up the helm area as an observatory and have a side set up for artificer things. Quasar wanted to set up an herb garden for medicines and fungus. The ship is starting to work those things out. The group also decided the Spelljammer pup ship needed a name and had a long discussion about options. They eventually went with naming the ship after Telgeddis, or Telgi.
The team weighed options on what to do next. There was no way Argentheart was going to leave them alone. Originally, they wanted to go to Krynn space to borrow a Dragonlance but the rescue mission became priority. They knew they were in Canterog space and remembered they had a contact possibly on the planet hat bore the same name. They Reached out to the reporter they met back in the second session, Abigail Triffts via the now recharged staff of sendings. Din used the staff to say “Hi, remember us, we are near Canterog, know anyone that can help?” They got back a speedy response of “Yes! I am at the Canterog Observatory, it is on the way to the planet, this is great news! We can check with my boss!” as well as a follow up blip of star chart information that Din could relay to the Spellgammer, or Telgi.
After some space navigation the ship also alerted the group to two approaching… things. At first there was a low growl, followed by a steady purr. Two Solar dragons, their skin a dull ember orange with yellow swirling patterns, offered to lead the ship and the crew to the observatory. They did not offer more information than that. The ship was led to what appeared to be a moon with a large crater and a large glass dome like structure. There was a safe place to land the ship within a tan stone cliffside with a metallic metal courtyard elevated above a pool of still glowing water. The group was greeted again by a large floating mechanical construct, polished copper plating with bands of white light almost acting as a shall. She introduced herself as the Grand Conservator, explaining she and her allies here protect this world.
The Conservator explained the Canterog observatory was a way station for travelers in the region to check in with the locals before heading down the surface world. Most of the world is unaware that there is an organization of space dragons watching for extraterrestrial threats, and the solar dragons want to keep it that way.
The crew noticed that there were rows of stone shelves with tablets featuring words and images as well as large marble humanoid constructs carrying stacks of tablets and organizing them onto shelves. Brux immediately wanted to take one as a librarian. The group explained some of their recent troubles with the Conservator, mostly mentioning Argentheart or Ashardalon, and were shown tablets depicting a similar colossal red dragon of legendary proportions engaged with battle not only against people in the city but other dragons, including a silver dragon that went missing after the attack. The Silver dragon, Kelnebriene, was one of the protectors of the city Rhadamanthus and potentially some of the older lived members of the city might remember the attack.
When Brux repeated the name Kelnebriene his sword fell out of his goo body, responding to the name. There might be more information in Kelnebriene’s various lairs for Brux to discover. The group was then met by Abigail Triffts, the kobold reporter from Canterog. The group talked with her about libraries, “adult books” for libraries things on the planet and what to expect. Her boss might have tons of information for them and she volunteered to take them to meet him.
They also found out more about their ship, if could morph its shape to fit into different situations, potentially walking with them in the shape of an elephant or dragon. They have not seen a Spelljammer pup before, but had reports mentioning seeing one over one hundred years back. Din asked about star charts and was shown maps that were lacking in fine detail but had bits right. The group asked if other travelers from off world had come through here and were told about a group of rude elves in dark griffon decorated ships had come through mentioning a missing asset and a woman, heading down to the surface. Din immediately clocked that her brother’s goons were most likely the ones mentioned, relaying a bit of lore to the party.
With piles of odd lore and more new questions than answers, we ended our session there for the night. It was more of a informational session as well as figuring out what the group wanted to do now that they were a good distance from anything Argentheart related.
