Our session started with the quickest of recap, leveling up, and sending spells coming through for the party. Din got a message from Alcied that they were successful in disabling the engines and could send the space station on a drifting course towards the nearest sun and the goblin engineer had defected to their cause and they would bring a ship. She also mentioned there were odd autognomes watching them. Din responded back to leave the autognomes alone, yes throw the ship at the sun, the group was running, and they did free the sphinx and a few others.
Quasar also received a message from Oranthus the cloud giant that his group had recruited Gatlineer back to their cause as well, had freed several monsters to act as distractions, and sent the summoned demon ape creature to assist the group. Their abilities were tapped out, things looked grim, they might be captured and the party should run. Quasar responded “ok, we run”
The party decided to run towards the library part of Argenthome, there were wider open spaces one could land a ship and not have to make it all the way back to the docks. Quasar, Din, and Brux were riding on the back of the oracular mole rat beast alongside the angel, the naga, the adolescent astral dreadnaught, and the sphinx Gredrenis.
Quasar noticed them first, a rolling wave of autognomes clogging distant avenues and surging towards the party. The group tried to evade them where possible, Din throwing javelins as the swarm formed arms, causing the swarm to fall into a nearby building. Quasar used a tidal wave to knock a pile forming a torso and head back into a well like access point. Brux used eldritch blast, attempting to sever hips that were forming from the mass of autognomes, only disabling one of the constructs. The sphinx used his roar to stun the constructs for a few moments and the astral dreadnaught used its antimagic eye to break the connection to whatever magic was controlling this swarm for a few moments. The party cleared some distance from the fusing autognomes when a shadow fell over them, the completed autognome swarm had formed itself into a facsimile dragon robot.
The group set to combat as this construct seemed to be baring their path forward. Many of their resources tapped out, they had to rely on a few powers they had not used in a while. The angel healed the oracular beast, since it was giving the group bonuses on their rolls. The sphinx set upon the dragon with its claws, the naga was very weak so it took cover, the astral dreadnaught prepared an ability as a failsafe. As the dragon reared up and was about to release a beam of concentrated light and fire the dreadnaught used its imprisoning power to remove the dragon from the battlefield negating the breath weapon and bringing back the robot after the round was done. The rest of the group readied attacks and abilities for when the robot came back and laid into it with spell, blade, and claws. Brux was able to do massive damage with his pact blade, breaking the core of whatever was keeping the fused mass of autognomes together, ending the beast as the shadow of a massive beholder ship landed nearby. The group looked in to see the goblin engineer they met so long ago waving them over to board.
Brux looked for the autognome they had met before and wanted to bring him with but was told no by Norella, since everything Argentheart was traceable by the organization. Brux pulled out the core scale on the construct, also was traceable being a scale of the dragon himself, and tossed that back in the pile. Alcied asked where the pther group was and was told the were maybe captured and Din used her last Sending from the magic staff to ask if where the giants were and if they were ok. She could tell the message was delivered but there was no response. They deduced the giants and allies were possibly alive and would need to be rescued. The group left their saved sacrifices on the ship and prepared for a rescue mission.
Our session ended there for the night, the combat with the metal dragon was different. I did not want the party to get instantly vaporized by the dragon and was using the Chardalyn dragon statistics from the Rime of the Frost Maiden adventure but with modifications. The group had an ability check that was them attacking the swarm of autognomes. Their successes altered the starting hit points and removed abilities from the dragon. The party had an easier time but they did also have the pile of monster allies.
