Session 2: Miner Troubles

The party approached the shipyards to hear a terrible roar as something was grappling with a large blue sphinx in the air above the ship yard. The hunt master roughly landed with the no longer flying sphinx and the party helped him subdue the beast. The juvenile sphinx was being transported and had escaped from one of the research labs. The group learned how to apply stasis nets to the unconscious magical creature and met their ships captain and crew. The Desmondonna 3 is a large ship with an all-changeling mercenary crew on contract with Argentheart. The ship takes the various hunting teams to different planets to gather specimens. The Juniper’s team as well as the recovery team came along as well, all working together to make these missions go smoothly.

They made their way rather safely, jumping out of the wilds of space into the astral sea, and back again, only seeing some weird giant elven statues floating timelessly. They made their way into the galaxy the organization was working on exploring took a smaller “away ship” and borrowing a dragonborn paladin, Lord Gelfin Trenbar, from the other group to have an extra team member for the mission.

Once planet side on Blincera they navigated dust storms and found the site of their mission. The mines on the planet were being attacked by stone giant constructs. The monsters would come from the deeper caves and disable the miners without killing anyone. The local cleric had a church full of injured miners and needed someone to investigate. While talking with the cleric they also met a traveling reporter from “far away” that was under house arrest in the church for trying to go into the off-limits mines. The party, their dragonborn paladin, and new found kobold reporter, Abigail Triffts, set up a sting operation with the mine.

They met the lead miner Abbelhelm and talked with him about the activity at the mine as well as the frequency of attacks by the strange stone constructs. They concluded something about the constructs only wounding and not killing any of the miners was strange but fortunate. The group hatched a plan.

They kicked on all the machinery and within the hour a stone giant statue came out and attacked them. the group was able to destroy the attacking statue and the druid Quasar noticed a small creature with wings fluttering out of the wreckage and fleeing into the mines. The group looked at the strange statue and the reporter recognized it as something like the research she was doing on a strange death cult that was popping up after years of dormancy.

The session ended there for the night. It felt like the session flowed better, they were able to have two combats against stronger foes and learn more about their new work situations.

I still made too many Npc’s
