Mother Goetia's Walking Fortress
Mother Goetia's Walking Fortress was completed for Tine Fielding's Leg Witch Build Challenge.
The main body of the build was insulation foam covered with small foam bricks, placed on dragon legs from a broken toy, and balanced with a tail from the same dragon. The house was built with magnets so I could remove it from the body to have a witch cottage. The mushroom bits were from Halloween floral from a craft store, the windows Lego.
Mother Goetia herself is a Wizkid hag miniature that I removed and doubled the legs with wooden skewer tips, constructed a Milliput dress, attached a 3d printed skull from etsy, and painted her up with speed paints.
Lore: Within the wilds on the world of Canterog resides a wandering witch known to most as Mother Goetia. Claims have been made that she is vaguely spoken of in most world mythologies as a trickster and a monster, but usually her tales paint her as a boogeyman to spook children into obeying their parents.
In some tales she sets challenges for heroes to overcome and rewards them justly, in other tales she has brought down forgotten kingdoms because the king was rude to her, which is hard to prove since the kingdom was forgotten. If you show her kindness, kindness will be returned.
Uses in a game:
Party could lose a member of their team and need a resurrection but might not have the money to pay. As long as they do a favor or two for Mother Goetia, she might bring back the lost soul into a suitable temporary body until the party finishes a task for her. it could me roughing up a rival, retrieving one of her son’s bodies from a museum, trading for arcane secrets on her behalf.
On behalf of a wizard ally or even just a quest board the party is sent to investigate a strange tower that should be abandoned, but a heraldic tome is hidden within. Upon investigation the party finds the tower but with a group of tattered goblins guarding a monstruous many limbed cart laden with magical trinkets. With combat or witty conversation, the group either drives off the cart or convinces the goblins to let them into the tower. They find more goblin rummaging around inside as well as what seems like the goblin leader, his clothing seems much more important. Combat or diplomacy, the party will discover these goblins work for a powerful witch that is seeking items that once belonged to her, the book the party needs is not one of them but can be found within a fake well in the basement of the tower.
One of the party’s favorite npc has a problem, someone gave them a potion with the intention of falling in love, unknowingly poisoning them terribly. The party must race into the woods to locate the only person capable of making such a potion, Mother Goetia, and talk her into a cure.
